The Star-Spangled Banner (Voice of Freedom Singers 1995)
For five years, 225 singers from virtually every singing organization in the Rogue River Valley gathered for 10 weeks every spring to create the magic that was the Voice of Freedom Singers. When the horse races concluded at 6:30 on July 4th each year, they stood at the ready with 9 pickup trucks lined up at the gate. 90 minutes later, they had transformed the track into their stage, with full lighting, sound, and staging. Then in the final moments of dusk, they would thrill the crowd of 7000 waiting for the evening’s fireworks. Here is their opening for the 1995 festivities: A setting of The Star-Spangled Banner, arranged and conducted by their Artistic Director, David Hastings.
